 2017 Preview 


       Gadsden City completed the 2016 season with a 7-6 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region four, the Titans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Gadsden City made a nice playoff run in 2016, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Hoover team by the score of 42-14.

       Since 2010, Gadsden City has gone a combined 48-34. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 11 seasons, Gadsden City has managed to compile a record of 85-46. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A and 55th in the AHSAA.

Matt Scott resigned as the head football coach at Gadsden City after just four seasons with the school. His teams went a combined 27-20 and 4-3 in the playoffs.


Bart Sessions leaves Tuscaloosa County after just a single season to accept the head coaching job at Gadsden City. His only team in Tuscaloosa finished with a 2-8 record. He previously served as an assistant coach at Prattville before taking over the head coaching duties at McGill-Toolen in 2011 for three seasons.



       Coach Sessions' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 36-13 (73.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sessions' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won two region championships.

       The Gadsden City Titans will play in Class 7A region four during the 2017 season. The Titans have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 68-43 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 7A and 17th in the AHSAA.

       The Titans should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Ryan Sparks returns for his Senior season after completing 54 of 133 passes for 789 yards and 10 touchdowns.

      Senior Jaelyn Fleming returns after rushing for 494 yards on 79 carries and scoring 5 touchdowns. He also gained 292 yards receiving.

       The Titans open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Spain Park on Friday, August 25 at Jaguar Stadium at Bob Finley Field. Last year the Spain Park Jaguars finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 7A region three. The Jaguars lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to James Clemens by a score of 21-12.

       Gadsden City and Spain Park have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Titans have a 3-3-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2016 with Spain Park winning by a score of 21-17.

       Gadsden City returns 7A All-State Senior athlete Jaelyn Fleming. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
